If you are looking for another awesome mountain in Japan, be sure to check out Furano Hokkaido. This mountain is more tailored for beginner and intermediate riders, as well as for tourists.
This ski resort spans across 170 hectares of terrain and features a peak of 1,200 meters, making them a pinnacle on the world cup ski-racing map. Nonetheless, the runs are generally very well groomed, making it perfect for beginners and intermediate riders that like to go fast. They have 9 meters of light, fluffy, and powdery snow per season, making it a hot spot for boarders.
The Furano on-piste runs are generally encompass the natural landscape and have an angle of 30 degrees or more generally. Also, for the more advanced and bold riders, they have amazing off-piste terrains (however, they are extremely strict about the prohibition of this) and backcountries. On the other hand, they do have organized tours where you can get to experience a bit of off-piste riding. Nonetheless, we want riders to be aware that the mountains in Japan are prominent for avalanches, so stay on-piste if you can.
The village of Furano is mainly filled with accommodations and a rather limited variety of restaurants and bars. For the most part, there is virtually no nightlife here, making it ideal for families. In addition, the Japanese ski resort prides itself on being English-friendly and even feature English speaking day cares for kids. Furthermore, if you want to experience another activity other than basic boarding/skiing, be sure to check out their snowmobile, ice hole fishing, and backcountry tours.
